It is not permissible to flatter the Sufis and call it Dawah!

حكم الصلح مع أهل البدع في عدم التكلم في آيات الصفات ؟ للامام ابن عثيمين رحمه الله
السؤال: بعض إخواننا الدعاة إلى الله عز وجل في البلاد رأوا أن من المصلحة أنهم يتفقون مع الصوفية في عدم الكلام في المحاضرات أو في الخطب في الاستواء مثلاً أو الاستغاثة وغيرها من الأشياء، واستدلوا باتفاق النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم مع اليهود، فهل الاستدلال صحيح يا شيخ؟ ما توجيهكم؟
الجواب: لا هذا الاستدلال غير صحيح؛ لأن هذا الذي تذكر هو قوله تعالى: {وَدُّوا لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ} [القلم:9] ، المداهنة في الدين لا تجوز، والرسول عليه الصلاة والسلام إنما صالح اليهود على ألا يعتدي أحد على أحد، لا على أن نرضى بدينهم أبداً ولا يمكن يرضى الرسول بدينهم أبداً، وهذا الذي تذكر يعني الرضا بما هم عليه من الباطل، فالمصالحة على هذا الوجه هي مداهنة في الواقع، والمداهنة محرمة، لا يجوز لأحد أن يداهن أحداً في دين الله، بل يجب بيان الحق مهما كان، لكن من الممكن إذا رأوا من المصلحة ألا يبدءوا بالإنكار قبل كل شيء، وأن يبدءوا أولاً بالشرح الصحيح، فمثلاً إذا تكلم عن الاستواء كما قلتم يشرح معنى الاستواء ويبين حقيقته دون أن يقول ويوجد أناس يفسرونه بكذا إلا بعد أن يتوطن الناس ويعرفوا الحق ويسهل عليهم الانتقال من الباطل إلى الحق.

Question: Shaykh; may Allah bless you. In our country some of our brothers who are (Dua’at) callers to Allah the Exalted, see it as a benefit and to be of good interest that they have an agreement with the Sufis that they will not speak—during lectures or Friday sermons—about the ascension (of Allah) for example or about seeking aid (from other than Allah) and another acts of worship as well. And they use as a proof the agreement the Prophet ﷺ had with the Jews. Therefore is this proof correct, O Shaykh? What is your advice?
Answer: No, using this as a proof is not correct; because that which you mentioned can be found in the statement of the Exalted: “They wish that you should compromise (in religion out of courtesy) with them, so they (too) would compromise with you.” (Soorah Al Qalam 68:9)
Flattery (comprising out of courtesy) in the religion is not permissible. The Messenger ﷺ only made a pact with the Jews that no one would exceed the bounds over another; not that we would be pleased with their religion; never! It is not possible that the Messenger ﷺ would be pleased with their religion; never. And that which you mentioned is to be pleased with the falsehood they are upon. A pact like this is in reality, flattery (comprising out of courtesy). It is not permissible for anyone to flatter (comprising out of courtesy) anyone in the religion of Allah, rather it is obligatory to clarify the truth whatever it may be.
But it is possible—if they see it as a benefit—that they do not begin with criticism as the very first thing and they can begin with the correct explanation. For example if you speak about the ascension—as you mentioned—and you explain the meaning and clarify its reality without saying ‘there people who explain it like this’ until after it has become firm in the people and they know the truth and it will be easy upon them to move from the falsehood to the truth.
