Shaykh Ubayd bin Abdullah Al-Jabiri [حفظه الله]: The cry of the Takbir with the community.
Questioner: The cry of Takbir with the community during demonstrations/rallies and also in mosques has become widespread in recent times. Has the Messenger ﷺ actually forbidden this act?
Shaykh Ubayd bin Abdullah Al-Jabiri [حفظه الله]: He ﷺ said:
“Whoever introduces something into this affair of ours (i.e. Islam) that which is not from it will have it rejected.” [Recorded in Bukhari (2697) and Muslim (2697) and transmitted by ‘A’ishah.]
And in another wording in Muslim (1718) he said:
“Whoever performs a deed that is not from this Religion of ours will have it rejected.”
There is agreement among the established people of knowledge and the excellently pious Imams and their sons, the disciples of knowledge, that demonstrations/enunciations, is a newly introduced matter (in religion).
Likewise, the community takbir is a newly introduced matter. There is no command from the Prophet ﷺ regarding these matters.
The innovation brings another innovation.
The loud shout of the takbir is a result of the demonstrations/rallies and the community takbir and has spread even to the mosques.
And the narrator spoke the truth when he said:
“Innovation is the harbinger of unbelief.”
This does not mean that demonstrations/rallies and the loud cry of the takbir are disbelief,
however, I say that the innovation brings about that which is greater.
This then continues until a person falls into disbelief and thus falls away from the religion of Allah (عز و جل).
To give an example, this is how we know men of the Muslim Brotherhood who participated in the knowledge rounds of the Salafiyyah
and today, statements of apostasy and disbelief in Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) are being spread about them.
Thus, Muslims should beware of the innovations, even if they are of the minor innovations.
